The USS California (SSN-781) is a Virginia-class nuclear-powered submarine of the United States Navy. It was commissioned into service on October 29, 2011, and is based at Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, Connecticut. The submarine is named after the US state of California and is the seventh vessel to bear this name in the US Navy.
The USS California is 377 feet long and weighs around 7,800 tons when submerged. The submarine has a top speed of over 25 knots and can operate at a maximum depth of over 800 feet. It is equipped with torpedoes and Tomahawk cruise missiles and has the capability to conduct intelligence gathering, reconnaissance, and surveillance operations.
The USS California has participated in several training exercises and operations since its commissioning, including multiple deployments to the Pacific Ocean and the western Pacific region. It has also conducted operations in the Arctic, collaborating with other nations to enhance regional security and stability.
